Water, the essence of life!

with Ema Taylor aka 'The Body Bible'

Water is essential to all life and the reason we all call Mother Earth home.

We are all made up of 50-65% water, so it is no surprise that adequate water intake is fundamental for normal functioning of every cell, tissue, and organ in our body. Memory, concentration, mood and energy levels all decrease with even mild dehydration.

It is recommended that the average adult female drinks around 2L (8cups) and the average adult male 2.6L (10 cups) per day. So are you drinking enough?

Here are a few tips to make sure you are getting the 2L (minimum) you need everyday.

Wake up:

One of the best routines to get into upon waking is rehydrating your body. Fill a 1L water bottle and drink half before your morning cup of tea or coffee. Now you only have 1.5L to drink throughout the day and your body and brain will be able to function more efficiently from the get go.

Mix it up:

Herbal teas (non caffeinated) and flavoured water can make your liquid intake a little more appealing while providing added health benefits. • Steep 2 herbal teabags in a litre drink bottle and leave in the fridge over night for iced tea. • Add a slice of lemon, a slice of orange and a sprig of fresh mint to iced water to help alkalize your body and boost your immune system. • Add ½ tsp of turmeric, a pinch of cayenne, a cube of grated ginger and a squeeze of lemon to hot water to help boost immunity, improve circulation and clear congestion.

Bottle it up:

Take it with you in the car, to yoga, the beach and your work desk. This is your new favourite accessory 😉

Take it onboard:

Water is particularly important for flying. When you are up in air the humidity is around 20% – much less than our usual comfortable 40-70%, so adequate fluid intake is essential to avoid dehydration. Packing your drink bottle and making sure you are drinking at least 1 cup for every hour of flying is important. A nourishing moisturiser and eye drops will help keep you fresh and hydrated from the outside, no doubt your body will thank you when you reach your destination.

Sweet sipping. X
